Chris Week 9 = 7.25; Week 10 = 8
February was a lost cause as I mentioned, with a lot of personal and work crisis during the month that ate it all away quickly. I managed to squeeze in a few runs but nothing too consistent. We were on vacation last week, and while the fruity drinks and sandy beaches called my name for the most part, I actually did squeeze in two short runs for a total of 8 miles for the week.
Luckily we still aren't in official training mode - it seems like Rich picked a great time for the marathon, as the spring and summer are sure to afford less illness and chaos and more outdoor running time before the marathon hits in the fall. We talked about our training choices when we were on vacation. I'm thinking a 20 week plan, although Rich had been looking at a 16 week plan. Any advice from experienced marathoners out there?
Now, back to the real world - sadly - and hopefully with some renewed energy and focus after a much needed winter break.

I hope Aruba was great for you both, you deserved a nice vacation.
I personally have used an 18 week plan. You can see a couple of them here http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/Mar00novice.htm
I just did my 15 mile run yesterday and it was cold, windy, and hilly and by the end my legs just ached! It's done though and happy to have done it.
Pick a plan that works best with your personal schedule and remember that the most important run of the week is the long run. Do not skip the long run!
You guys will do great and just make it fun. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it to Dublin!
For my first marathon I did a 25 week plan - afterall, I had never run more than half a marathon and wasn't really in shape.
I started my training by just getting into a regular routine. Then I took one of the plans out there (probably that 20 week plan) and adapted it to my schedule - I also included a couple of extra weeks in there in case I lost one or two along the way (which always seems to happen) With the extra weeks in the plan I can have an off week and stay on track.
Hal Higdon plans are great!
Ken, Chris - these are great tips. Thank you so much. We found an 18 week Novice one by Hal that we are going to try, I believe: http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/Mar00novice.htm
