Draggin'...

That was the answer from Rich's 84-year-old grandmother anytime you asked her how she was doing. It didn't matter if it was a great day or a bad day, the answer was always the same. She was a spitfire of a little woman and as I struggled to get back into a groove this weekend I couldn't help but hear her words over and over in my head - even though I was pushing myself I certainly was draggin'!

Friday miles: 0
Saturday miles: 4
3rd week total miles: a measly 11.5!
Sunday miles: 8 (thank goodness this kicks off a new, and hopefully better, week!)

Saturday was the slowest I have ever run - even slower than when I returned to running after our second son was born! I'm not sure what was up but let's just say that the combination of five days off and a "wee bit" too much champagne on Friday night made for a very difficult run on Saturday. When I got back even Rich was in shock at how little distance I had covered... IN AN HOUR!

Speaking of Rich...
First of all, I wasn't in shock at how little distance Chris had covered in an hour. Frankly, I think something was wrong with her GPS watch because I know even on her worst day...she doesn't run that slow...so I would blame it on the watch, not the champagne :-)

My week at work was also crazy busy so I hadn't run since last Sunday. I also know that EXCUSES ARE FOR LOSERS and that it's my fault I didn't log a few more runs during the week. I'll try to do better this week - promise.

I did get outside in the fa-reezing-cold weather Sunday and ran 5 miles with a very good pace, given where I'm at in the process. I'll take that as a mini-victory.

hi rich and chris - andy told me about your marathon-ing and your blog. i'm currently hot and heavy into training for my first marathon, too - boston 2008! yikes!

whomever said the long runs are the most important is right. i HATE short runs but like the long runs, because its at least a feeling of accomplishment. i'm going out for 13 this weekend, complete with my super-nerdy-yet-incredibly-necessary fuel/water bottle belt. woohoo!

good luck training :) kristin

Kristin!!! We had no idea - that is awesome! Perhaps we could plan some long run Saturday rendevous (with huge lunch celebrations after). :-) Good luck! Keep us posted.
